Overview

SafeShot Secure Screenshot is a browser extension that masks sensitive information on a web page locally, then captures a screenshot of the current tab. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data. It applies to the extension itself and does not cover the third-party websites you visit.

No Data Collection

SafeShot does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data or usage information to external servers. Specifically:

No browsing history is collected or uploaded
No typed text, form input, or page content is sent to any server
No analytics, tracking, or telemetry is performed
No cookies or identifiers are created for tracking purposes
No account, name, email address, or device information is requested or stored
No advertising identifiers or crash reports are collected

What the Extension Accesses

The visible area of the current tab — but only after you explicitly trigger a capture using the toolbar button, the right-click menu, or the Alt+Shift+S shortcut. Access is granted per action through the activeTab permission; SafeShot has no standing access to all websites.
Page text in the active tab, only while a capture is in progress, so that your redaction rules can be matched locally in the browser.
SafeShot declares no host_permissions and does not automatically inject scripts into every site you visit. Scripts are injected on demand into the single tab you act on.

Local Storage Only

All extension settings are stored entirely within your browser using chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device. The stored keys are:

enabled — whether masking is turned on
customRules — your own regular expressions
whitelist — sites where masking is skipped
maskStyle — how masks are drawn (mode, block, color)
lang — interface language (auto / English / Chinese)

How Images Are Handled

The visible tab is captured locally by the browser as a PNG held in memory.
Masking blocks are drawn onto that image on a local canvas — the redaction happens before the image is ever written anywhere.
The finished image is copied to your system clipboard. If the clipboard is unavailable, it is saved as a PNG into your downloads folder instead.

SafeShot does not upload images to any server, does not create backups, and does not keep any history of past screenshots.

Network & Data Transmission

SafeShot makes no network requests. The extension contains no analytics, no telemetry, no CDN or remote font references, and does not load any code from the internet. This can be verified directly in the extension's source code.

Permissions

activeTab — read the pixels of the current tab when you trigger a capture
scripting — inject the scanning and masking code into the tab you act on
storage — save your settings locally
contextMenus — add the right-click SafeShot menu item
clipboardWrite — copy the finished screenshot to your clipboard
offscreen — perform the clipboard write when the window cannot do it directly
downloads — save the PNG when the clipboard is unavailable

SafeShot requests no host_permissions.

Third-Party Services

SafeShot does not integrate with any third-party services, APIs, SDKs, analytics providers, or advertising networks. No third-party code is bundled with the extension.

Data Retention & Deletion

Settings in chrome.storage.local are retained until you change them or until you uninstall the extension.
Screenshots exist only in your clipboard (managed by your operating system) or as a file you chose to download (managed by you). SafeShot keeps no copies of them.
Uninstalling the extension removes all stored settings. You can also clear them at any time from the extension's settings page, or by clearing extension storage in your browser.

Your Rights

Because SafeShot collects no personal data, there is no personal data held by us for you to access, correct, or export. You can:

Turn masking off, or change any setting, at any time
Delete all stored settings by clearing extension storage
Uninstall the extension entirely

If you are located in the EEA, the UK, or California, you are welcome to contact us with any question about your rights, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Children's Privacy

SafeShot is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be published in the extension's source code repository at github.com/xuhongwang/safeshot.

扩展会访问哪些信息

当前标签页的可视区域 —— 但仅在您主动触发截图时（工具栏按钮、右键菜单或 Alt+Shift+S 快捷键）。该访问通过 activeTab 权限按次授予，SafeShot 不具备对所有网站的常驻访问权。
仅在截图进行期间读取当前标签页的页面文本，用于在浏览器本地匹配您的打码规则。
SafeShot 未声明任何 host_permissions，也不会自动向您访问的每个网站注入脚本；脚本只在您操作时按需注入到那一个标签页。

仅本地存储

所有扩展设置均通过 chrome.storage.local 完整保存在您的浏览器中，这些数据不会离开您的设备。存储的键包括：

customRules —— 您自定义的正则规则
whitelist —— 跳过打码的站点白名单
maskStyle —— 打码样式（模式、色块、颜色）

截图与剪贴板的去向

由浏览器在本地将可视标签页截取为 PNG，仅保存在内存中。
打码色块在本地 canvas 上直接绘制到该图片 —— 打码发生在图片被写入任何位置之前。
处理完成的图片复制到系统剪贴板；若剪贴板不可用，则改为保存为 PNG 文件到您的下载文件夹。

SafeShot 不会将图片上传到任何服务器，不创建备份，也不保留任何历史截图记录。

网络与数据传输

SafeShot 不发起任何网络请求。扩展内不含任何统计、埋点、CDN 或远程字体引用，也不会从互联网加载任何代码。这一点可直接在扩展源码中核验。

权限说明

activeTab —— 您触发截图时读取当前标签页画面
scripting —— 向您操作的标签页注入扫描与打码代码
storage —— 在本地保存您的设置
contextMenus —— 添加右键菜单中的 SafeShot 项
clipboardWrite —— 将完成的截图复制到剪贴板
offscreen —— 当窗口无法直接写入剪贴板时，由离屏文档代为写入
downloads —— 剪贴板不可用时保存 PNG 文件

SafeShot 不申请任何 host_permissions。

第三方服务

SafeShot 不接入任何第三方服务、API、SDK、统计服务或广告网络，扩展中也未捆绑任何第三方代码。

数据保留与删除

chrome.storage.local 中的设置会一直保留，直到您修改它们或卸载扩展。
截图只存在于系统剪贴板中（由操作系统管理），或您自行下载的文件中（由您管理）。SafeShot 不保留任何副本。
卸载扩展会移除全部已存储的设置；您也可以随时在扩展设置页清除，或在浏览器中清除扩展存储。

您的权利

由于 SafeShot 不收集任何个人数据，我们也就没有可供您访问、更正或导出的个人数据。您可以：

随时彻底卸载本扩展

儿童隐私
